Reading and Phonics

This book about Autumn can be read to your child. The more you read it the more familiar they will become with some of the Sight Words they will be learning about this term. The Sight words are 'I' and 'see'.

The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin is a well loved story about a cheeky squirrel and his adventures.

To help your child with Phonics go on a listening walk. Simply pause for a minute every now and then on your walk and listen. Afterwards, talk about what you have heard. Some things you might hear on your walk are:

  • birds

  • traffic

  • children playing

  • babies crying

  • a motorbike

  • a plane

  • the wind in the trees

  • an alarm

  • emergency vehicles
