Sharing stories

Sharing stories together and reading to your child is a wonderful way to develop their life-long love of reading.

We share a story in class every day. It is our favourite time of the day!

The joy on the children's faces as they wait to find out what is going to happen next is magical.

We are focusing our story times on books that have some repetition in them (phrases that keep throughout the book). As children learn these phrases they join in saying them. This is important as it connects the idea that the words on the page mean you say something; an important part of understanding what reading is.

We are also reading books with rhyming words; studies have shown that children who can identify rhyming words can go on to be better readers. Other books we read are supporting our understanding in other areas of our learning, such as Maths.

Please find below some pictures of the books we are enjoying in class at the minute. Maybe you could borrow them from the library or listen to someone read them on YouTube.
