This week, we enjoyed our cross-curricular reading all about space! We worked hard to use of retrieval skills to skim and scan a piece of text to pull out pieces of information which would help us answer challenging questions. We would like to praise Harry, from 5L, in particular for his fantastic retrieval skills! Well done, from your teachers in Year 5
This week in English, we have been writing, learning and performing poems about the circus. Dora used the text (Leon and the Place Between) and her own knowledge about the circus to write her super poem. We are so impressed with your hard work Dora - well done!
Today, we used our writing skills to write a character description based upon our new book, Leon and the Place Between. We based our description on the main character, Leon, who had a curiosity and passion for magic! We worked hard to ensure that we included a relative clause, relative pronouns, parenthesis, expanded noun phrases (with fabulous vocabulary) and a range of fronted adverbials!
Ernests, from 5L, ensured that he covered all of his steps to success to write a piece of creative writing which demonstrated the high quality writing we expect to see in Y5. Ernests recognised that he needs to ensure that his tenses are consistent, therefore he identified this as a next step when he edits.
At the beginning of the week, we were introduced to our new book for this half term which is called 'Leon and the Place Between'
Year 5 were asked to make a prediction based on the front cover of the book (without seeing the title) and think of their own title for the book. Elsie completed her prediction using the cover and she also made note of any questions she had about the text before it was shared. Great work, Elsie! From your Year 5 teachers
