Modern Foreign Languages

French intent and implement statement.

Intent

In French, we are aiming for our pupils to listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding. Children should be working towards being able to speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures, as well as, reading carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing. We would like our pupils to be able to engage in conversations and appreciate songs, poems and stories in French.

Implementation

All children in Key Stage 2 take part in weekly French lessons based on the CGP Salut! curriculum-linked scheme of work. This scheme builds progression across the Key Stage enabling pupils to develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening through a range of interesting and engaging topics. Pupils are also given a taste of French culture through games, songs and stories in the target language.
