Year 5 have been learning how to add and subtract fractions, as well as convert them from improper fractions to mixed numbers.
Year 5 were given a challenge to produce either a presentation about Louis Sacher (the author we have been studying) or a short grammar lesson to present to the class.

56C have been learning about scurvy and Dr James Lind who discovered the cure.
Year 5 have been working hard at problem solving this week in maths. By using different techniques, they have been able to find all possible answers and explain how they found them out!
Children in Year 5 were lucky enough today to meet children's author, Sam Hay.
Sam’s favourite story themes include; magic, zombies and crazy animal adventures. She takes inspiration from her fantastic family and fun team of pets including; Martin the (scaredy) cat, Fluffy and Todd the (cute as custard) rabbits, and Goldie the (enormous) fish.
She’s had around 30 books published including the Undead Pets series about zombie animals and Screaming Sands, a ghostly trilogy set at the seaside.
Today 56C were lucky enough to experience Virtual Reality using Google Cardboard. Some of us explored deep dark caves, others were eaten by dinosaurs and the rest rode on a thrilling roller-coaster!
Our trip to the Guild Hall
Year 5/6 were very lucky to be invited to the Guild Hall in Leicester. While we were there we learnt about the Tudors. We were told all about crime and punishment during the Tudors and how religion affected the country.

Year 5 Literacy
Year 5 have been learning how to write scary stories this week. Today (Friday 30th October) they read their stories to each other by making dens and using torches to create a spooky atmosphere.
56C were stranded on a desert island for No Pens Day Wednesday. Their challenge was to create a shelter to keep out the rain.
Year 5 started their maths lessons this term by using their mathematical thinking skills. They were introduced to a new resource called 'Carr Bars' and were asked how they might use them to help them with their maths. Here are some photos showing what they did...
