Body movement

In Key stage 1 we focus on acquiring the skills for Gymnastics. The students all learn how to a do a variety of movements which is then put together into a routine and is shown to their teachers at the end of the term.

In Key stage 2 the students use the skills that they have previously learnt and put them into a routine. They work in groups of 5 or 6 and they build up their routines over 5 weeks. The students  have to work in collaboration and use effective communication. They will have to learn to listen music, timing and sequencing. The year 3 and 4 students show their rountines to their year group and teachers, whereas  the year 5 and 6 students show their routines to the whole of the school, including foundation. Although the students get nervous, they are always amazing :-)

During the first half of the summer term all the students will learn body movement and balance through Dance and gymnastics. The programme is designed for students to  develop and learn a variety of movements and to then apply them to a routine.  Students will have the opportunity to show their routines to their peers and members of staff. Students will also have access to an after school gymnastics which links through to a community gymnastics academy.
